You've heard of Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket, but a lesser known island is lingering just south of those islands - Block Island, RI. When you get there you will feel like you've been transported to a New England island resort right out of a storybook.
Planes, Trains and Automobiles:
If you were to travel to Block Island by vehicle you would embark on a trip that John Candy and Steve Martin would be envious of. You could drive to Montauk, NY (Long Island), Narragansett, RI or New London, CT then put yourself and your car on a ferry and (slowly) continue your voyage across the Long Island Sound or Block Island Sound.

Fly directly into Block Island State Airport. From most points of departures Way to Go Air Charter can get you to this New England gem in less than 2 hours. Instead of guessing what ungodly hour you should leave your house to avoid New York City traffic (correct answer: there is no good time to avoid NYC traffic) you can enjoy the view from a pristine Cherokee 6 aircraft high above the New York skyline (pointing and laughing at the traffic is allowed while on board.)
When in Rome:
When you and your party arrive on the island your first choice is going to be "do we want to take bikes downtown or catch a cab?" Either option gets you where you need to be because you are only a few miles from the beaches, shops and restaurants of downtown Block Island. We definitely recommend jumping on bikes and exploring the coastline.
New England is known for its Bed & Breakfasts, unique architecture and lighthouses - Block Island is no different. BI has two not-to-be-missed lighthouses on either end of the island. The Block Island Southeast Light and the Block Island North Lighthouse. While you're visiting the North Lighthouse swing through the Atlantic Flyway on the Northwest Tip of the Island. This is an undeveloped part of the island that serves as home to many unique birds and wildlife.
For a truly unique experience, fly to BI for the Block Island Race Week. Usually held in June, teams from around the world compete in these yacht races.
Family memories are made here. Seeing your children squirm the first time they see a lobster (that was most likely caught that morning) is definitely a Kodak moment. However, once they try seafood on this island they are not going to want to have it anywhere else. It doesn't get served fresher than it does here.
